This month has been eventful to say the least. I finished writing and editing a book, wrote some blog posts for you lovely people, took some serious Instagram photo shoots, and read five books! So, instead of writing reviews or just a wrap up of books by itself, I thought I would give you guys an update on what I’ve been up to in this post.

Do you guys like these kind of posts about my life? Let me know in the comments below and I will be sure to include more of them!

So, without further ado, let’s get started.

First, let’s start with books.

This month was a great reading month for me! I am by no means one of those people who reads 100 books in a year (though, if you are, props to you!!). However, I’m pretty happy with my reads, coming in at 5 books this month.

First, I read Empress of A Thousand SkiesYou can find my review here! I know there were many mixed reviews, but I personally found this book to be phenomenal! It is kind of like Star Wars on adrenaline with an invasion of technology in all aspects of your personal life (everyone literally has a device IN THEIR BRAIN that tracks their memories!) Black Mirror and Star Wars fans rejoice! I gave this one 5/5 stars.

Next, we have A Darker Shade of Magic! I found this book enjoyable, however it did not totally live up to the hype for me. I hope that I become obsessed with this series as I continue to read it. I will say that the world building is very intricate and extremely well developed. This was my favorite part of the story, by far. The characters were also quite interesting, I loved getting to know both Kell and Lila! I think that the story overall was a little too predictable to me, which is why I didn’t rate it as high as I might have otherwise. 3.5/5 stars

Because of the amazing live action movie, I read Hunted so that I could continue in my current Beauty and the Beast obsession. Check out more retellings of Beauty and the Beast here!  I found this story to be very much of a slow burn, and it also read like a true fairy tale, which I was pleasantly surprised about! However, it was also different enough to really be unique. The beginning reminded me a bit of A Court of Thorns and Roses, but as we continued in the story it became more different from ACOTAR and more interesting. Without giving away spoilers, I found the ending to be phenomenally written and really pulled at the heartstrings. I ended up giving this one 4/5 stars.

A Shadow Bright and Burning was next on my list. I personally found this one to not be my cup of tea, and DNFed it. The writing style left something to be desired in my opinion.  It was written in a way where I did not feel connected to the story or the characters. However, I always encourage you guys to form your own opinion, so by all means, if it sounds like something interesting to you, definitely still check it out! Based off of what I read, 1/5 stars for this one.

Lastly, I’ve been reading The Bear and the Nightingale, and plan on finishing it tonight! Much like Hunted, the story started out as a slow burn, and has really built upon itself as I continue to read it. The characters are all very well developed! It reminds me a bit of Brothers Grimm in that it reads like a true fairy tale, and there are many different stories. The difference is that there are multiple stories that thread into one overarching plot, versus multiple unconnected stories. I’ve found as I’ve gotten into this one that it is highly addictive, and the writing style is very beautiful. I will update my feelings on this book once I finish tonight, but so far I highly recommend it! Update: 4.5/5 Stars. The last third of the book became intense and fast-paced. The build up and slow burn in the beginning was well worth it!

Blogging- Right now, I’ve just been having fun writing when inspiration hits me. I don’t really have a planned format, I just write as a creative outlet and a way to connect with you guys. I’m really glad I’ve joined the book blogging community, and both reading and writing posts is a joy. Speaking of, let me know if you have any requests on what you want me to write about!! I love hearing from you!

If you guys are wondering, my blogging routine usually consists of going to a cafe with my husband, ordering a latte, and writing! Simple yet satisfying!

Writing My Book, Post Your Best Bookstagram Photos Ever

This month, I learned A LOT about the self publishing book process.

First of all, I worked on the cover for my book. This was a really fun process! (Let me know if you guys want me to write a post about all of the steps that go into self publishing! I can write a series if you are interested!)

Second, I had my book edited and proofread.

I also learned A TON about Kindle Publishing, Create Space, and other forms of self publishing.

It was a very productive month, and a great learning experience to say the least!

Living Life

As far as my personal life, I spent a lot of time hiking (my husband and I are trying to go over 7,000 steps a day LOL!), hanging with my puppy (who is now 7 months old!), and bookstagramming. I also finally got a freelance writing job, so I’m excited to say the least! Lots of exciting changes this month!
